Security, immigration and customs guidance for travel through HKT.

Security screening

  • Liquids, aerosols and gels up to 100 ml per container, in one resealable 1-litre bag.
  • Laptops and tablets are screened separately — remove them from bags.
  • Power banks travel in carry-on baggage only, up to 100 Wh.
  • Sharp objects and tools belong in checked baggage.

Immigration

  • Passports should be valid for at least 6 months on the date of entry.
  • Carry a visa where applicable to your nationality and length of stay.
  • Automated gates are available for eligible passport holders.
  • Keep your boarding pass available until you exit the airport.

Customs

  • Green channel: nothing to declare. Red channel: goods to declare.
  • Duty-free allowance: 200 cigarettes or 250 g of tobacco, and 1 litre of alcohol.
  • Currency of USD 15,000 or more (or equivalent) must be declared.
  • Durian and other strong-smelling fruit are not permitted inside the terminals.

Frequently asked questions

How early should I arrive?

Check-in counters generally open 3 hours before international departures and 2 hours before domestic departures. Boarding gates close 20 minutes before departure.

Where can I smoke?

Designated outdoor areas landside, and marked smoking rooms airside. Smoking elsewhere in the terminals is prohibited.

Can I store luggage at the airport?

Yes — baggage storage on Level 1 of the International Terminal, from ฿100 per day, open 06:00–23:00.

I left something on a plane or in the terminal.

For items left on aircraft, contact your airline. For items found in the terminals, contact Lost & Found on Level 1 (08:00–20:00); items are held for 90 days.

Is there a transit hotel or rest area?

Quiet rest areas are located airside on Level 3. Nearby hotels offer shuttle services from the arrivals curb.

Travelling with pets?

Animal transport is arranged through your airline and requires advance notice. Assistance animals are accepted in the terminals with documentation.
